Oldmate Sank United

City 2-1 United

A massive game, game between 'Massive Spender' and 'Massive Debter'. The focus will be on Tevez. He's in hot form and promised to celebrate his goal against his old side. SAF opted with 4-5-1, as expected. Cautious approach against very decent side away from home. City opted with 4-3-3 or you can say 4-5-1 without a ball, mirror image of United's.

United: Van Der Sar, Rafael, Brown, Evans, Evra, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Valencia, Giggs, Rooney.

1st half: Giggs scored simple tap in 17th minutes. Other than that, its cagey affair. The Citizens showed their supremacy in the last 10 minutes. Pacy Bellamy seem troubling young Rafael. And eventually the Brazilians fouled the Welshmen to give an opportunity to Tevez to score from spotkick.

2nd half: The trio of Wright Phillips- Tevez-Bellamy continue to threat United's backline especially on the break. Resulting from Bellamy's corner, Tevez scored from 4 yards out to put City ahead. United streaming forward but Rooney missed few good chances while Valencia embarassly missed a sitter. Owen in for Anderson to beefed up the attack. Diouf  and Scholes came in late for Valencia and Rafael. No miracle happen.

Overall is an average performance and disappointing result for United. SAF made a cautious approach, thats understandable but in my opinion, he should play with 2 strikers earlier, considering City had rookie Center Back (Boyota) partnering unimpressive Kompany. Afterall, this is the 1st leg. Hopefully we can turn the result at Old Trafford.
