Old Rival Knocked United OUT

United 0-1 Leeds

United: Kuszczak, Neville, Brown, Evans, Fabio, Obertan, Gibson, Anderson, Welbeck, Rooney, Berbatov.

Its good to see Neville and Evans back, but the news that Vidic injured in a warm up session sound annoying. Vidic was suppossed to start instead of Evans. Sir Alex put on good mixture between of experience and youth. This starting XI should good enough to see off Leeds. What so called 'The War of Roses' and old rivalry will make this tie more interesting.

1st Half: United began with slow pace while Leeds showed they are not coming to be slaughter. They took shock lead through Beckford. Kuszczak was not quick enough to go out off his line and Brown failed to track down Leeds no. 9. Then, Leeds had at least 2 clear header to add their second and United looked rusty in third end. Rooney have 1-on-1 chance but wasted it.

2nd Half: The tension mounted and United waving numbers of atack but still failed find the break through. Welback got 1 good chance but their GK blocked it well. Sir Alex made double subsituation with Giggs and Valencia coming in for ineffective Obertan and Welback. Valencia done well his usual job, penetrated opposition by line and made few good crosses, but no good finishing from the strikers. Last throw of the dice, Owen brought in for Anderson. Few good chances created but unluckily none of our strikers put on their shooting boots today.

Very frustrating result for United. Credit to Leeds, they put on good show and maintained positive setup through out the game. Though Champions League and Premier League still the main priorities, defeated by an arch rival at home in early stage of competition will be a smack in a face. Hopefully, semi final League Cup win over Man City in midweek will soften the blow.
